      ITS A SHAM

     No, we didn't misspell the title of the 1970's record "It's a Shame" by the Spinners, but our head is certainly spinning after hearing about an emerging city council strategy that is related to downtown parking. [03/08/99]


WHY ZORRO

   A recent editorial in the Santa Barbara News Press [An Open Discussion] likened Why? Online to Zorro, an example of news in America being correlated to blockbuster Hollywood movies.
   We hadn't really thought about Zorro, but the comparison has its appeal. Zorro, a folk hero of California lore, challenged the rich and powerful, along with their government sock puppets, foiling their plans to loot and plunder the land at the expense of the common man and woman who had no voice in these affairs.

Jurassic Parking Lot

     Even Fred Flintstone had to have wheels, but if he were driving to the north end of downtown Santa Barbara today, he'd find his saber-toothed sedan jammed up in a slow moving, dinosaur line of cars waiting to park.
      The parking problem puts us in a Flintstone frame of mind, because the problem is so old that it qualifies as prehistoric, and the thinking of city officials so thick as to resemble the rocks in the quarry where Fred worked. [Find out more]
